six months with joshua ruiz.

i realized today that my cousin joshua ruiz will be having his six month birthday on the thirteenth. he is the son of my uncle mark and aunt ceci... i've taken photos of josh and racky which are on this blog.
the day that josh was born, was one of the most important days on my mom's side of the family. it was the first grandson for my grandparents as well as the fact that racky became a big sister (and a good one too).
i got to take care of racky during the day into the next two days as ceci recovered and they waited to go home. it was a blessing to be with them and to share this time.
these are some photos from that day...

kayle family: a new chapter.

this morning i had the privilege of photographing christy and mike. they have been married now for almost two years and are expecting their first bundle of joy, a baby girl.
it was such a great time talking to them and getting to hear a little bit about their story.
can't wait to meet this little girl in february!

christy's face while mike was explaining the story of how they met... great story!

traditions.

i am strong believer in telling stories through photographs... it is such an interesting way to learn about others and their traditions, especially relating to the holidays.
one of the greatest things my parents did for my sister elsie and i was to create little traditions for us and our small family of four. thanksgiving is the culmination of so many of those traditions as we prepare for the christmas season. our christmas tree which is decorated the day after thanksgiving is the story of the four of us... ornaments from friends, other relatives, as well as an ornament from every place that we've been to in the world... hope this gives you a little bit of the palacios story.

brother-in-law or creepy man behind christmas tree?
out of order: this is from thanksgiving... this is my cousin emily (she'll be six years old this next week)

i want my nephew to know that his aunt was not the photographer who did this to him... it was his abuela instead.
nothing like getting your christmas tree in 70 degree weather... oh south florida.

elsie.

so i know that i have been absent from the blog scene for awhile. i've had friends tell me online, church, work, etc. that i've been doing a pretty poor job of keeping this up to date.
well alright, so i've been gone for awhile. i've been researching i guess you can say. i have been lost in what i really want to portray though my photography. it has to do with the fact that i've been photographing sports lately... i've lost a lot of what i enjoyed and studied about photography worried that i'll get just the right shot of someone running with the ball, or diving of the platform.

my sister, elsie, gave me a very interesting assignment that has started a whole new way of thinking, journaling, and researching... my sister has been married to her husband jeff for two years now. may of 2007 as i was finishing up my junior year she calls me to tell me that she is pregnant (they had only been married for four months). her son was born seven months later and has grabbed complete control of my heart. elsie called me again in june and told that number two is on my way-- not only am i going to an aunt for the second time, but a godmother as well. jeff asked me if i could snap some photos of elsie alone and with their son... it has launched me into this whole new way of thinking about life. so needless to say i have taken a month long break from photography... again.... to understand this way of capturing a moment.

my life as a sports photographer

hey all -
well this is a glimpse into my life as a sports photographer. this is very new, but i think i'm getting the hang of it. i shot two events this weekend, the first one was yesterday (swimming) the second was my old high school's homecoming football game.
the football game wins for the more interesting of the two. i shot photos for a straight two and a half hours in torrential down pour. luckily i had an old target plastic bag in my car so i quickly covered my camera and joined the players on the field and took some great shots.
hope you enjoy.

raquel and joshua.

when my aunt ceci asked me to shoot some photos of her two kids, raquel and joshua, i quickly said, "YES!" raquel, or racky and joshua will be baptized on october 12th. these pictures were taken for their special event.
racky just turned 10 years old and joshua is 3 months. the shoot didn't last very much as joshua was a little cranky, but racky couldn't help, but show just how much she loves him. she is one proud big sister.
hope you enjoy these!
